While some don't like to admit it, you are in the majority of core gamers.  They have fond memories of Nintendo, like their characters, and enjoy playing their games at a friend's house every once and awhile, but the lack of 3rd party support and lesser HW just kills the desire to own their recent systems.

So, unless this thing is cheap enough, like under $200, the core gamers aren't going to be there.  And casuals will stick with their phones/tablets.

I believe everyone will stick to phones and tablets. I'll eat my hat if this mess is successful.

Personally, I didn't think the other rumored version, a home console whose controller doubled as a handheld, would have been successful, either.  However, it would have let them put in something more powerful than if it was a dedicated handheld.  And probably have okay 3rd party support for the next 2-3 years while the PS4 and XBO are a thing.

If this rumor is true, then I doubt there's going to be much of an upgrade from the Wii U, if any at all, in real world performance.  Which is probably why Nintendo is going to be putting their games on both.  It also means there probably isn't going to be much in terms AAA ports if this thing isn't a smash hit.  Which is probably why we have only had 4 games announced for it only 7 months from launch.

I really can't believe Nintendo is waiting til there is a mere 5 or so months from launch to reveal it.  Wonder if they are worried about a negative reception.
