This isn't a "handheld". It's a hybrid console. There's never been anything like this really so using past examples for the future doesn't make sense. 

There HAS been a console that was woefully underpowered moreso than the Tegra X1 is to an XBox One ... that was called the Wii. That did OK. 

Inflation adjusted that would cost right around $299.99 today. 

If so, then you can't look at the install bases for handhelds (such as the ds) and call them gauranteed buyers of the NX.

It's funny that you mention the wii even though the same strategy was adopted for the wii u, and we all know how that turned out...
