Reasons the NX will be a flop

You do remember that the 3DS was not selling when it was $249, right?  Nintendo HAD to do a firesale, which lost them quite a bit of money, dropping the price to $169 before it started to perform well.  In other words, a $249-$299 handheld WILL NOT SELL in a day when you can buy a decent tablet for $100-$150 and play pretty much anything you want from the Play Store.  The handheld market is dying.

I'm not disagreeing, but Nintendo is stuck in a bad place. They don't really have the audience or resources to succeed in the core home console gaming market. Not with Sony and MS willing to spend billions. MS especially, X1 is dirt cheap for those level of specs.

The handheld consoles market is down, but 3DS is still doing pretty damn well and moves a lot of software. So naturally Nintendo wants to continue with that, especially since there isn't a significant competitor there vying for avid gamers.

I was not looking forward to another generation of Nintendo home and portable consoles. But if Nintendo is going to put their sole focus on hybrid home console/portable device, that excites me in a way other consoles don't and I will definitely buy one. I would hope Nintendo can keep the price around $250 though. If it has the same specs as the Nvidia Shield TV, then $250 is possible.
