I'd say it's somewhat realistic. Because of this one episode. It setup she loved him. Then add all the time that was missing between the original run and the newer episodes. Then the time jump between New Batman Adventures and Beyond. Her crush/love of Batman would of went really high. But Timm's Batman is so horrible at relasionships. With Kyle, Mask Of The Phantasm, and many other women.
He's super horrible to Terry, compared to Dick. She had to quit on Batman, because of his attitude. In some ways, Batman is a villian towards his friends. I think Timm is just trying to connect all of his stories, into one big thing. But because of the huge time jumps. And the years we wait on this stuff. It makes people go WTF with a lot of things.
