Oh yeah, you can avoid it. Just don't play it.

Just because you're some super 'fan' of any series, doesn't mean that every game will please you. The game looks fine, but i'm sure there will always be someone to hate on something...

Just don't play the game and keep playing TTYD if you're truly in the mood for a "real" Paper Mario.

 

Obviously I'm not going to get the game, but I can't avoid the fact that my once favorite game series is trash now and hasn't had a true installment in over 10 years (though atleast SPM was still good).
