Hasn't the footstep thing been broken for like over a week? Same with the little map showing you where you caught the Pokemon...I assume it's done deliberately so not to overload the servers with unimportant details.
But yes these things should be resolved and Hershel correctly mentions the issues with the levelling system. Hopefully when everything settles then these details and other notable absences (player vs player) will be addressed.
