I have no idea what took so long for "new" hardware numbers if there wasn't going to fixes. 

That's strange. When I go to the hopepage it reads PS4 is at 42.5m.

If you go here, VG Chartz says the global sell-through hardware total for PS4 is 41,137,531 as of May 21st, 2016.

This is ridiculously inaccurate.

 

Sony released PR saying that the global sell-through hardware total for PS4 is 40.0 million as of May 22nd, 2016.

The fact that the hardware totals were not adjusted for their inherent inaccuracy speaks to how careless ioi was in preparing this update. These numbers simply cannot be trusted.
