perhaps because it just isn't that good of a game? I know its from Nintendo so this sentence bothers on heresy in this forum but could be a possibility no?

I mean come on I have seen a kart N64 vs. Wii version comparison. Yes the new game looked better but it was the same level and the same game. Thats a bit over the top.

Edit: found it http://www.gametrailers.com/player/32964.html#comments_top Its indeed the completely identical level. From the N64 version. Seriously how does Nintendo make this. They release the same game every generation and millions of people buy it. Awesome.

Its like coca-cola same damn formula they change couple things call it cherry coke, vanilla coke, coke 2, coke zero, ect.  Similar but never the same. Mario kart : wii has a different battlemode, 12players racing, online mode, bikes/kart combo, new trick/drifting system, characters ect...enough changes to warrant a buy . Madden, GrandTheftAuto, Guitar Hero, the list goes on if the formula is good why redo it? Same reason why cars are redesign and yet still keep their well known name every year.
