Most people on this site keep stating that the WiiU is profitable for Nintendo even with it's poor performance, however Nintendo has throughout this generation so far actually LOST money overall.

First of all, that graph doesn't show Wii U profit, they show total profit/loss. That includes all factors, including R&D costs for example.

Second of all, people aren't saying "The Wii U made profit", they're saying "The Wii U is making profit now". And it is. And they're on track to come out in the black for the generation.

Yes R&D costs, which includes the costs of developing the WiiU, WiiU R&D costs may partly be included in FY 2011. Also as the generation is ending March 2017 I find it highly unlikely Nintendo will post a profit overall this generation. If Nintendo is losing money you can bet your ass it's all down to the WiiU. The 3DS must be quite profitable, but it's not been enough to overall put Nintendo in the black this generation.

As for people not saying the WiiU made a profit...

They can keep making all the home consoles they want as long as they are profitting from them.  I'm sure Nintendo always wants their console to be the best selling on the market.  But as long as they as financially stable, I don't see why they cannot keep making home consoles to make them a little more money and make the rest of us gamers happy.

Thats very normal, some time you have popular product some time you dont, Nintendo will definitely quite hardware only because Wii U (even Wii U made them profit)

Nintendo isn't going to give up making consoles even if the NX fails like the Wii U did. Their hardware, even when it doesn't sell that well, still earns them a ton of profit just from software alone because their games sell that amazingly.
