Lack of personality? Many of their games just offer a vastly different experience than thrid party games and add something to their ecosystem, unlike Microsoft which makes more of the same.
Targetting teenagers? God of War, The Last of Us, Infamous, Killzone appeal to people of all ages, and Gran Turismo is basically an adult only thing. Its the third party games like COD that attract teenagers to their systems.
Lack of innovation? Gran Turismo started an entirely new genre of racing, simulation racing, which is far bigger than arcade racing now.
God of War started an entirely new sub genre of hack and slash games, and took over the hack and slash genre in terms of critical and commercial success. Games like Ghostrider, Dante's Inferno and Castlevania LOS followed, but none could match it in any way.
Uncharted started this semi cinematic semi third person shooter genre, that Tomb Raider now follows, even though the first game was inspired by Tomb Raider. It was still a very different take on it gameplay and narrative wise.
Heavy Rain started this cinematic thing that you and I both dislike, here we have something common, but it was innovative.
Motorstorm is one of the most unique offroad racing game series ever. The vehicle classes, the multiroute tracks, it is amazingly different from ther racers.
Demon's Souls started an entirely new class of RPG's that led to the renaissance of challenging games.
