The thing everyone always seems to forget about Nintendo going third party is that platform holders collect fees from third partys. So not only would Nintendo miss out on collecting these fees themselves (and say what you will about WiiU, but 3ds has stellar third party support) but also loose the benefit of not having to pay platform fees themselves.

Not to mention that Nintendo software sells fine to spectacular even on failing Nintendo hardware because at least the core NIntendo fans are there.

I think going third party would have worse rampifications for Nintendo than most seem to think.
