I'd recommend either WarioWare or Boom Blox over Mario Party 8 for the "multiplayer games that girls like" category. Rayman Raving Rabbids is also supposed to be good, but I haven't experinced it personally.
And one little tip about downloading VC games into the Wii limited memory capacity: You can delete VC/WiiWare games that you aren't playing and re-download them again later at no charge. As long as you leave the save data there (listed in a seperate section in the Wii directory), you shouldn't actually lose anything at all.
