That isn't the voice of all Eurogamer. Only the indivual comment from one person in the panel that made MK8 the game of the year in 2014. 

The DF analysis is much better suited to express what you try to push forward. Yet they don't say or agree to anything of the sort in their article. 

That was said buy Eurogamer, and this was said around 9 months after MK8 launch. I dont see any problem, with statment they made:
