And you need to setup the Internet settings. Once you connect the Wii to the Internet, go to the Settings Menu, and do a System Update.

Once the system is updated, go to the Wii Shop Channel and download the Everybody Votes Channel, Weather, Mii Channel, Nintendo Channel, Internet Channel, etc.
