I doubt this is primarily the case. Its all about what people are willing to invest and this does not always correlate or a situation where correlation does not mean causation. PC gaming is a hobby is primarily (like most things) taken part of by people who are not rich. They just make it their business to save up to the purchase price or build up to it over time.. You can build a dream PC over time and not in a day. Console gaming is played by people who just want to enjoy the sitdown experience of gaming on a console. It does not always equate to overall income. Last generation to the current of the consoles launched at $299-$599. You can build an adequate gaming PC thats upgradable at $500 last gen.
