Sure, the people making a big deal out of "Xbox no longer has exclusives" are tryng to score points in the console wars but obviously those who are suddenly pushing the idea that "exclusives don't matter" when a year ago they had a different message are doing the exact same thing.  NOW they don't believe in exclusives?  Right.  I think I saw someone earlier post something like "#forthegamers" which is basically the epitome of the console warz mentality where everything is spun into a weapon.

Is Microsoft making their games exclusive to Windows 10, UWP, and their own store a pro-consumer move?  No, it's a pro-Microsoft move.  Does it bring some benefit to a segment of gamers?  Absolutely.  So does KFC opening up a new restaurant in Saphenous, Japan, as now more people can eat wonderful fried chicken (!) but I'm not going to call that "pro-consumer".

Really, though, so what?  Should we pat them on the back for trying to make more money?  Not really, though it does represent an improvement.  I mean, Sony has games available on Sony TVs and BluRay Player and Samsung TVs through Playstation Now but I'm not going to pat them on the back, either.  They're just doing what they should, which is to grow their product.

Personally, I'm pro-business compared to a lot of gamers, as I've been in business and understand that the first loyalty is to the success of your own company.  Most of the time, if businesses listened to their customers, they'd die within a year.  I think some "anti-consumer" claims are just people feeling entitled.  However, I'm not going to praise a company for trying to make money.

1st bold: remember when MS was pedaling the "greatest lineup in Xbox history" and fans were eating it up? Touting Halo 5, Forza 6, Tomb Raider, etc. Now, all of a sudden, exclusives don't matter, coincidentally as Microsoft gets rid of the idea of true exclusives. Funny.

2nd bold: exactly. I've posted, at length, about this many times. Things are only "anti-consumer" because, for some reason, you feel everything is owed to you just for making a purchasing decision, and if you don't get what you want, it's not your fault for jumping on the wrong horse; it's their fault for not doing every little thing you want them to. Let's go ahead and abolish exclusives, let every console play online against other consoles, etc. Get rid of every incentive to purchase a particular console. And watch the console industry crumble under all this "pro-consumer" mentality. And when we end up with one console that allows everyone to play with everybody, watch the quality of games dip as developers no longer have an incentive to push harder than the next guy. No need to work extra hard. 200 million people will buy this "one console for all", and if just 1% buy a game, that's 2 million sales for a low effort game. Plenty of profit.
