So Sony are still going for defined generations while MS will go for the continuous updated consoles route

If they do indeed go ahead with the PlayStation 5 I expect it will be Sony's last defined generation and the ps5 will be continuously updated, and I expect it won't be called the PlayStation 5 either.

I think the advantage of having a defined generation is it's clearer to communicate with the consumer. I'm sure Sony will want to add major features and/or take and/or adapt their direction in gaming. Releasing a PS5 will get that message across much more efficient. The downside is when you start a new generation, you start from zero and have to build up once again.
