Unless Nintendo has found a way to track multiple sets of eyes in a room and hold the 3D effect for all participants, I am not sure that I want to see Nintendo go this route. If it's a single player only effect, then it just sounds to me like a more eye-straining version of the VR headset.
Nintendo still holds one big advantage over its home console competitors and that is the local multiplayer experience. If you have a bunch of friends over, the best console to own is still a Wii U and I would like to see Nintendo build on this advantage. While this rumor sounds like an interesting concept, I can't see any way that this can work with multiple people in the room. Other people in the room looking at a blurred screen while you play alone sounds like just as anti-social of a gaming experience as wearing a VR headset. I hope that this rumor is untrue.
