Better question: Why would Batman, of all people, leave the spear behind?!

Heat of the moment.

He threw it away to obviously not be harming Superman anymore. But then he leanrs that there is someone's Mom named Martha who he has to save in like <10 minutes. It's been like 35 years since his mom, Martha, was killed in front of his eyes. This is almost like a second chance for him to go and save his mom in a way.

So even if he hadn't forgotten the spear in that heat of the moment, he probably wouldn't bother running the 10 seconds out of the way to grab it. Whats the point. He can get it later. He has no reason to believe he will need it in the immediate future. I woudl guess he would just grab it and put it in his batcave to keep out of Lex's hands in future and possibly other kryptonians ever showing up. Something easily doable after saving Martha.

While I see what you're saying, I disagree. If this were a batarang, then absolutely...Batman uses those things like calling cards. But this is a highly-sought after, rare material that Batman spent the better part of an entire movie trying to obtain. Not to mention this is Batman we're talking about here. He's obsessive, meticulous, and way too disciplined to be dropping a weapon like that behind. I think of all people, Batman would be THE character to bother running 10 seconds out of the way to grab it. The point is because he's supposed to be the World's Greatest Detective, and he's extremely cautious (like in the comics, when he creates contingency plans to take down every Justice League member in case they go evil). His detective skills always seem to take a back seat in most of the movie versions, but his meticulousness is usually on point. Take for example in the Dark Knight: before he escapes his mangled car, he sets it to self-destruct. And in the Burton Batman films, if he leaves his car behind, he puts up that neat little shield. If he can take care of his cars so well, surely he can protect a spear? Or take a few steps back from Superman instead of throwing it away?

Also, I just want to mention that while I hated the story, plot, and characterizations in this movie, the set pieces were cool, the music was great, and it's cool if you enjoyed it.
