Nah, it's going to be ok. People get so easily carried out by media... I don't know why it would be a "total disaster", except maybe for the few sports that will be hosted in Guanabara Bay.
Plus, Rio already hosted Pan American games (2007), a similar event to Olympic games, but on a smaller scale (just countries from the americas like US, Canada, Mexico, Argentina, etc.) and it went just fine.
