"Motion controls are bad because they're not the popular method today" is argumentum ad populum, and argumentum ad populum is a logical fallacy.

nobody is saying that, what people are saying is that if they were as good as you are claiming they would be far more relevant today. MS wouldnt have to have moved Kinect. Ninty wouldnt have felt the need to have a system based on a controller with a big screen. There would be another Move, etc.

Well the Kinect was a technically superior but practically inferior product.  While it was more advanced than the Wii, it brought back problems the Wii solved, namely navigation of a 3D space.

Motion Controls are contextually great, not generally useful though, that's why they have faded.  Consoles are intentionally "jack of all trades" proposals, intended to provide a good experience in nearly all genres.  Motion controls are master so a few specific things.  So a motion control based console or mandatory motion control peripheral doesn't make sense.  And optional peripherals just result in 3rd party developers not investing time and resources into games built for them.

However, motion controls are finding a strong presence in the VR movement as their strengths and VR's strengths tend to be similar.
