Why not? SEGA did it and they're still fine up to this day, producing some nice software.

First off, that picture of link is disturbing... secondly, were you around when Sega did that? The Dreamcast had to be marked down to $49.99... and it STILL didn't sell lol. People jump ship when they find out the company is abandoning them.
