Prolonged mystery leads to great reveals for Zelda, NX, and beyond

Seems as if Nintendo's gambit to focus solely on Zelda turned out far better than most people realized. Because it looks like such a fantastic game, I hardly feel this E3 was the nightmare anyone expected.

But there was a good reason it turned out so well: we knew practically nothing about Zelda until E3. All the mystery surrounding this game, made the ultimate extended reveal oh-so-satisfying. The sheer, sudden, massive volume of information about Zelda was so incredibly welcome after YEARS of knowing nothing.

I'm starting to think the same could possibly be said for the NX as well. A massive, extended reveal of the console that takes away as much uncertaintly and mystery as possible is what people *really* crave. It would be so easy to do a by-the-numbers press conference lasting 5-30 minutes on the NX console and call it a day. And while that works for Xbox and Playstation, it just doesn't suit Nintendo as well. We're too cynical of Nintendo to assume too much good of them frankly. And I think they know that.

Sure - give me a brief intro on NX when you're ready to show it. And maybe at first peek I'll consider it. But if you don't confirm games and if you say nothing about achievements, party chat, or the damn controller I'll give you the stink eye.

But show me a Treehouse stream of Breath of the Wild on NX and you have intrigued.

Debut incredible new 1st party titles and get those on Treehouse too, you'll get me really excited.

And if you can not only confirm 3rd party NX ports, but show real gameplay demonstrating the NX's power and capability, you'll have me and everyone else through the roof.

And if you're showing me what the NX is really, really going to be like and it's really good everyone will be impressed.

The tragedy of the WiiU was that it was always full of half-measures. Not enough power. Not enough games. Not enough features. 

 So, the further and further the NX reveal gets from being anything resembling a half-measure, the more likely it is to *actually* succeed. Not to set my hopes on it, but for Nintendo it is best to not only confirm the NX's titles and features but to show the world via Treehouse the extended cut of the console and it's features in action.
