I think he has drawing power. Even if his star faded a bit in the US, the international market will be strong. As a very US-centric film, it would need it. The international numbers saved a lot of blockbusters (Pacific Rim, Terminator Genisys, Warcraft, X-men Apocalypse).
But well, 50M is a hefty sum. Anyway, if they put 200M on it it's because they are expecting decent numbers.
