It's always been kind of niche, but going the way they have with the game I can totally see it getting a new audience or even recapture a lost audience. And Mario 64 sold 11 million copies. A big Mario adventure game should have been the launch game for NX if Nintendo is really serious about getting a large installed base fast.
I know Zelda BotW is going to be awesome and sell well, but a new benchmark Mario game would have did better sales wise for launching the NX.
But if we can't have Mario for NX launch, maybe we will get Luigi and some ghosts.

Mario 64 was totally groundbreaking though. A benchmark if there ever was one. I would totally approve of a Mario 3D game at launch hehe, but if we get it in the holidays instead? I am ok with that :>
