Independence Day: Resurgence cost 200 million to make- Are they out of their minds?

Considering how many records Jurassic World broke... They probably would like to replicate that success with another big 90's film and bring in the Billions.
Obviously the reward will hopefully out-weigh the risk.

It certainly beats rebooting something for a 3rd time like Spiderman, and they are retaining some sort of story continuity even if some of it is retconned, so I'll give them props for that.
