My bad, I did overlook Splatoon, but while that game was certainly fresh and original, (not to mention excellent) I feel like BotW is even more impressive because of how ambitious it is and the daring liberties it takes with a franchise that's not only 30 years old but has such a large and passionate fan following. It takes guts to reinvent a series whose traditional form is held in almost religious regard.

And you have to do it damn well to get the incredible reaction they are getting while almost butchering every convention of the series.
This is the kind of risk that people may overlook because is called Zelda ergo is just "another Zelda", big mistake, this is way more than that.
