OK here we got first BMI pros and cons
Unlike weigth BMI scales with height so if you are a 6 foot women and see 140 lbs and here you 5'5 freinds talking about being fat at 120 seeing your higher wieght may be discouraging however since it is BMI it will balance the height issue of weight. So I think that is important especially for marketting.
Also this doctor is correct Overweight does not mean unhealthy it means you are outside the norm for your height in terms of average healthy weight. anything between 25-30 could be considered questionable since Mike Tyson I am sure was fit when he was 21 and had a 28 BMI. However once you hit 30 only very few statistical outliers are left that don't have a high body fat percentage and it is more than likely unhealthy to be 6 ft 235lbs unless you are now the governor of Califronia and even he has had heart issues(steriod use most likely).
Another point is that is easier to burn 3500 calories of fat than it is to gain 1 pound of muscle.
I do have to say that I do not think Wii Fit will cause dramatic weight loss but I do think it may help with things like balance, increasing general activity levels and most importantly tracking your weight and even seeing what you have done in the past. There is no doubt better programs out there but thinking about this.
You want to go to a Gym but you can't do more than 3 push ups without being winded and you feel embarressed. You are interested in Yoga but you have never actually tried it before and don't know what it is. You just want to do something active at 2 am and you live in the middle of nowhere. You live in a downtown apartment in the bad part of town and don't feel like jogging with the crackheads and tranny hookers and drug dealers as well as deal with traffic lights and cars.
Wii Fit has its place as either introductory or just makingyour like a little less sedinitary with some mild distractions. I woudln't be surprised if you start seeing 3rd party games that are balanced based with stories that require a lot of movements....Hoping for a FPS with nunchuck and balance board combo! or even better a JRPG that will surely shed some calories as the only way to run from random battle number 3809 is by hoping on and off the board as fast as possible and dodging attacks means shifting your weigth in accordance to the highlighted character.
