Both the Neo and the Scorpio will launch at $499.99.

These are enthusiast level devices that are built to make a profit on every sale, and meet the demands of people wanting the best home entertainment experience. They are not trying to sell these devices in mass quantities. Would they be happy to see these consoles move PS4 or better numbers? Hell yeah. Do they expect that though? Not by a long shot.

Both companies are going to offer exceptional experience at a premium. They will also continue to offer a great entry level experience with the OG hardware, which will be priced much lower, and should be the majority of sales for so time to come.

This strategy gives people options, options that have been seriously lacking in the console market up to now.

So what is better? Just like always, it is up to each individual. For me though, Neo + PSVR + Gran Turismo Sport is what I have been waiting for since x86/scalable platfotms where announced in 2013 and PSVR in 2014.

Either Microsoft is lying about true 4K gaming with Scorpio or the Scorpio will be really expensive.  A single GPU 1080 ($700) can't consistently get 30 fps in 4K.  People here are delusional that a $199 (AMD 480, regardless of overclocking) is adequate for 4K gaming (it's barely adequate for 1440p gaming).

If the Scorpio can provide decent 4K gaming, it will be priced much higher than $500.  The Scorpio will likely have 4k output but not true 4k, possibly upscaled from 1440p using an overclocked or better binned version of the 480 (or probably the unannounced 490).

No game is optimized for the 1080, and it is well overpriced being an nvidia product. The Neo and Scorpio will pull off 4k/30fps with current PS4/XBO level assets with the ~5TFLOPS average between the revealed and released specs.

Both consoles will be sold at a profit for $499.99, and both will put out 5+TFLOPS of performance. Will they compete with the ultra high end PC? No, no console will ever compete with the ultra high end PC, but they will hold their own very well at a 1/4 of the price.

These consoles are good for all gamers, so wether your a PC guy, Sony guy, or a MS or Nintendo guy, we should all be very happy to have better tech in the hands of devs, and more importantly a larger install base to help support the use of the tech. This will make all 3rd party games better, and allow 1st party games to continue to lead the industry.
