Agreed.  Its because people get emotionally attached to console generations and being associated with "winners".  Psychologists would have a field day.

For me personally its because I don't want to decide between shelling out money every year, or have outdated hardware.  I really like buying a console and knowing that Im on the cutting edge for ~5 years.  I do get annoyed that my phone is only the latest and greatest for 12 months and then its old news.  But alas, I am probably a dinosaur in this respect.
