I wouldn't be surprised if Phil is like this because his job is on the line and hanging by a thread.
Their conference wasn't exactly exciting or getting many praises and I doubt it wasn't convincing enough to get a lot of people to jump in or switch over from their competitors. Hell, Nintendo got a lot more positive results and all they had to do was show one game, no date.
