We don't generally use the term "abortion" except where something is being ended (the term is related to "abort", after all). In the rare cases where it's used in the way you're describing, it's not used in that way. It's used more in a metaphorical form - "an abortion of a pokemon", in this case. You wouldn't just say "an abortion" without the "of a..." following it. And I don't think I've ever really heard it used that way in speculative contexts.
