2.5 years as the default priest authority for a cutting edge raid guild. I know plenty about the WoW raid game. Voice chat helps. Voice chat is not necessary. I have proven it time and time again by refusing to endure the idiocy that was my guilds Vent channel for the entire time it existed. Clever use of macros, and learning how to type within spell cast times makes everything a cake walk. Of course I also used barely more than the base UI to boot. A few mods that made boss fights a thousand times easier sure, but that was maybe 3-4 total. I am not quite the norm though admittedly. |
Yes you're probably not the norm but these days I don't think any of the top raiding guild would ever consider recruiting anyone refusing to use vent, I know my guild would not and I know the top worldwide guilds make it a defacto requirement for anyone applying.
Trying to do Sunwell without vent and without any mod is just asking for failing miserably...(between dodging a billion aes and fighting not to waste a GCD people really don't have a lot of time to read chat these days, that is of course not the case for the more casual players although those tends to use mods too, just not the same than the raiders).
The thing is mods allow the user community to make up for the short-comings or the lack of some features in a game. It's a given that any MMO trying to compete with WoW would not be able to spend at the start the same amount of money that Blizzard is spending on Wow which means they will have to provide the player base some ways to do some of the stuff themselves in the meantime...
PS : the best selling game this year isn't going to be GTA4 or WiiFit. It's going to be the next Wow expansion, and by a wide margin at that ( provided chinese release is simultaneous to NA one this time).
