You know PC gamers are aware they are pretty much the last bastion of free online gaming, if W10 store managed somehow to get gamers to come away from steam and lure them in with candy, how long do you think it would be before you required a windows live gold sub to play games online on the PC? If MS thought they could get away with it that is.

No doubt they'd start a paid service, or simply exclude most options and functions from a free alternative. This is why I find the whole Apple vs MS battle so hilarious online; they both want the exact same thing, a closed biotope that they can micro-manage and use to make absurd amounts of money off of locked solutions and peripherals and 3rd party efforts with choking-type conditions attached to the contracts.
