Everything at retail is focused on the latest and greatest....catalog sales continue to weaken as the years go by. This isn't good news for companies like Nintendo who base their entire business plan around building a catalog that sells-through throughout the entire generation. |
I've always really felt consoles were about the newest and latest. PC is more for playing the same games / older games. MMOs, MOBAs, multiplayer survival, browser games, CSGO, TF2, Skyrim, Minecraft, Civilization, etc. in addition to a focus on emulation, Steam sales, the biggest games catalog, and so on. (obviously not saying PC can't be used for newest and latest, but seems that is only a very niche subset of PC gamers)
Also the adoption of digital and PSN sales will really help publishers continue to see a steady stream of income from old games that would have previously been mostly from the used market.
