I don't think so, it was a period marked with bad hardware decisions, huge software droughts, and a significant decline in fandom. At the same time, PlayStation was sweeping in and steamrolling Nintendo in sales and software support. Nintendo lost all their most important second/exclusive third party support during this period: Square, Enix, DMA/Rockstar, Rareware. Parties that went from close exclusive supporters to no longer supporting Nintendo consoles. Nintendo was seen as passé through this period. They began to reverse this around the time of the GBA SP, but it wasn't until the DS Lite that things were clearly turning around to brighter days. So everything in between the end of the SNES and the DS Lite was a really dark time for Nintendo fans from the NES and SNES era.

So what would be your opinion about the Wii era ? (2011-2016, WiiU included)

The Wii U had a completely opposite philosophy to the Wii: Wii was sleek and intuitive, the Wii U was chunky and convoluted. Also, Wii was filled with killer apps, and Wii U doesn't have any.

2006 saw the launch of the DS Lite and Wii, New Super Mario Bros, Twilight Princess, the virtual console, and Wii Sports. While they don't seem very interesting now, at the time they were all very refreshing and exciting things, all in a very short period of time. Then following in 2007 were a bunch of games appreciated by Nintendo fans like Metroid Prime 3, Fire Emblem, Paper Mario, and most importantly, another killer app with Super Mario Galaxy. Then Fit, Smash brothers, and Mario Kart 7 right around the corner. There were exciting little titles coming out that no one would have expected to be as much fun as they turned out to be. And towards the later years, Mario Galaxy 2, Just Dance, Monster Hunter, and Xenoblade.

Then in 2011 the new and fun ideas stopped coming. Even before Zelda Skyward Sword. 3DS came in at a disappointingly high price for most people, and Wii U launch was very far from exciting. Nintendo hadn't had a new killer app in a while by the time Wii U came out, and they haven't really had one since. Later 2011 to present has been like a second dark age for Nintendo.

I hope it ends with NX, because I really like Nintendo and think they have the capability to do a lot better than they are, currently. I also think Nintendo has more than proven themselves capable of digging themselves out of deep holes.

I describe myself as a little dose of toxic masculinity.
