If we talk about "Nintendo touch" it was always about great games, while their hardware always was mixed bag, so nothing really changed, they didn't lose nothing, they just failed with Wii U.

They failed to provide games that the masses could justify a home comsole for.  They did it with the Wii through a combination of great games and gimmicky games that were really fun to play.  

 

They lost their touch and couldn't do it a second time.
