I don't think this is so much his fault as it's the tournaments that are still stuck in Melee era where tiers ruled and there were exploits out the wazoo. Once you get embedded in that, it's really hard to pull out and just roll with the new additions. Though I might point out that VGChartz hardly is the most hardcore SSBB site, so it might be better to just simply set it up outside of tournament rules: Set the stock to 3 - 5 range and then only take out the fully moving stages, and maybe the 8 bit stages, since they've got all the turtles and the springs getting thrown around. Cast a vote for whether smash balls should be allowed and then just play. |
The rules do translate well is the issue. Most of the rules were designed less around fixing exploits, and more around forcing the game into the technical fighter role. That is why items are banned. It is also why the majority of stages that cause random damage are banned. The only complaints in this thread have been about the stage selection, and that obviously had some inconsistencies. While a SSBB tournament with standard rules probably would not be big on this site, I think the first one could get enough attention to be worthwhile.
