Paper Mario redirection, starfox zero, wii music, project guard and project robot all seem to agree.

Pikmin 3 is but a small oasis in a desert of bad games and decisions

Again, SF0 is more mixed than anything. Plus I thought a retry good amount of people like Guard, a fun spin-off that experiments with the game pad effectively? Also Project Robot is also another experiment and that has yet to release. And there's more than Pikmin 3, how about Luigi's Mansion Dark Moon, Mario Maker, Splatoon, etc.? And who knows what Zelda U could ultimately become. if you wanna go back to Wii Music, you might find Galaxy 2, Skyward Sword, Nintendo Land releasing around that time. Not every project is perfect, but why not try something different? He experiments. It's not gonna always work, great minds don't always succeed. They all have their bumps along the way.

Miyamoto didn't direct luigis mansion dark moon, or Mario maker, or splatoon, or Galaxy 2, or skyward sword. These were all made by other Nintendo teams.

SF0 is not mixed. This may be the title that puts the starfox line to sleep for a while due to low performance.

here's the problem with constant experimentation: Some people don't want "unique" things shoehorned into games. Starfox zero did not need to be locked into that weird control scheme, but miyamoto did it to be "different" and as a result, starfox suffered. Paper Mario changed because of him and his quest to make the series "different" from past iterations. The wii u's hardware was largely influenced by his desire to be "different" (third parties clearly didn't like it and now ALL of them are gone).
