Actually, Platinum Games is susceptible to make such poor decisions. Haven't you seen the Korra and the TMNT games? The staff from Platinum saw Star Fox Zero as a game of the caliber of the two previously aforementioned. 

I don't think it is a coincidence that Kora, TMNT and Transformers suck, the three games made in collaboration with Activision. These games are meant to make quick and easy money. Activision controls the development of these games.
