I whole hearedly disagree I think there's much bigger mistakes Sony made with the PS3 than BC keeping in mind we already have 120-130 million PS2's out there already , it's a nice feature but I don't think it's one that seals the deal for a significant % of the consumer , if Sony's smart they'd have researched this and concluded the same as me. PRICE POINT is Sony's biggest mistake , what would boost Sony's sales more ? a price reduction or full BC across all SKU's ? . Price Point , Price Point , Price Point the hardware is too expensive to make. |
Highlighted the key word in Fishy's post.
Price is a pre-launch mistake, because how cheap they can offer the PS3 is limited by the cost of all the components they put into the PS3. Blu-ray, Cell, hard drive, etc. all impacted the price which they would have to charge for PS3 so that they didn't lose their shirts trying to get enough install base to sell software and make money.
Unless you want to argue that they should have ripped more components out of the 40GB redesign. I don't really see how they could, though.
