Making a video game adaptation that only gamers will "get" is a guaranteed way to get a financial and critical flop, unless you limit the budget to below $50 million, or so and at least have a chance at get a movie that makes a profit. Resident Evil is pretty much the only financially successful video game franchise because it's relatively low budget and can profit from only really attracting the RE fanbase and a few extras who will more or less see any horror/zombie movie. So if you are looking to adapt a video game you either have to expect a low audience and budget accordingly, or use the name and characters from the video game only and make an original movie which has broader appeal.

The problem with Warcrraft is that it automatically has limited audience appeal because it has "cartoon" Orcs in it, including a sexy lady orc. The general audience who only know orcs from LOTR are going to think the WoW orcs are just lame. So this was only ever going to appeal to gamers in general at best, and Warcraft fans at worst. They should have budgeted accordingly. Problem is, if you want to do the fanservice and do orcs with the look and feel of WoW, orcs then you are locked into expensive CGI, which means budget is going to exceed realistic box office expectations. If someone did an actual analysis of who's realistically going to watch this movie, and how much is it going to cost to make a visually decent movie, then the project would have been refused before it even got started. The numbers just don't add up.

Using the name only to just make money and not make a good film is a sure way to push away core fans of franchises they love and of course made those companies where they are today, a sure fire way of putting them fof your future products, but I;m sure none of those people ever truly mattered, only those who just sit in front of the screen and pay up for whatever is thrown at the screen.

Also Resident Evil made some money but it;s still not regarded as groundbreaking or amazing, if anything it has a cult following and nothing more.

If you change the entire concept of WoW just to appeal to people who never once knew nor cared if Blizz existed is just going to make WoW not WoW at all. It may as well be something not even remotely related to WoW because your way is a sure fire way of getting tank reviews and really bad profit along with just confusing people and putting them fof you in the future entirely.

We've yet to even see a *good* video game movie adaptation that's been well recieved the world over by both crowds and actually done by a good team, not just the director, I;m talking the cast, crew, artists etc, the whole team, so far that hasn't happened once.

Also noticed your other reply to Paladin, you have a very narrow and greed driven view of making a good film at the expensive of pissing off others, I really hope you don't go into the movie industry to butcher some beloved video game titles because no offense but you aren't the guy to go to at all.

Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
