Spin is a powerful concept. Imagine a movie where this prince has to flee because his father is killed and the assassin has the key to a relic that's also a time machine. That'd be awesome! Or even a movie about the zombie apocalypse caused by this company and a rush to expose the company and save humanity.
Both of the game movies I just mentioned were terrible. It's easy to imagine them being good, but this movie has been in development hell for somewhere around seven years, with a plot we're just now hearing about in any sort of detail, and standoffish comments by the lead actor. That's merit for concern, even if you want to be optimistic. |
I don't even know what you're trying to say here. No one is going to think a movie will be good based on a one sentence description of a concept. They'll think the concept sounds interesting and maybe promising, but that's about it. I'm not optiomistic about this movie, I just think the direction they went was the right direction if they want to get a broader audience appeal and make a movie that critics will at least give a passing grade. The movie industry is better off pissing off the entire fanbase of a franchise but appealing to non-gamer movie goers than delivering fan service to gamers. The movie was probably in development hell because they probably started with writing a script based in the time of the Assassin rather than the modern world and they couldn't make it not suck. So they had to pivot to being primarily in the modern world and the script at least didn't suck. But I doubt the movie will be much good.
