I don't know why you would have kids without being married. I know people do it, I just think kids deserve married parents with a good nest, who are ready for them before they get created. And like others have said, a marriage can be as cheap as just getting a legal document signed.
But the real issue the ultimatum and the blackmail. Not sure it's if they are joking or if they are the kind of person that punishes others if they don't get their way. If it's the second, my advice, run, run as fast as you can. First to your lawyer and file for some custody arrangement, then to your own place away from someone who thinks its appropriate to punish and adult in a relationship with another adult.
