I don't care anymore since BvS, a movie I found enjoyable. Critics think their opinions matter more than ours and some of you believe that. Just go check things out for yourself if interested. |
For a movie like this, that needs to appeal to a much broader audience than Warcraft fans in particular or gamers in general, the views of critics will heavily influence the box office results. If you want a video game adaptation to actually do well at the box office then you should very much care what the critics have to say. It won;t affect your enjoyment, but it will affect how the movie does, and whether further movies will get green lit.
BvS succeeded despite the critics because of 2 things: It has Batman in it and it has Superman in it. If this same movie had been Green Lantern vs Blue Beetle it would have flopped hard, precisely because of the poor reviews. If Deadpool had got bad reviews it would have flopped hard too, but it got really good reviews and loads of people went to see it because it got surprisingly good reviews.
I don't think Uncharted will make it into production. I think the people trying to write the movie are going to realise they are simply writing a generic and fairly bland adventure-romance with the only draw being that it has the characters from a popular video game in it, which will not be nearly enough for the movie to be financial viable. We've already had National Treasure, Romancing the Stone and Indiana Jones (the 4th movie of which was total crap), and Tomb Raider that was completely devoid of romance, what's Uncharted going to bring that's new and interesting? Same will go for TLOU movie IMO. They will be trying to write something that workls as a movie but they will realise they are writing a by the numbers script that has no hook for an audience unfamiliar with the game.
I'm actually fairly hopeful for Ass Creed because it sounds like the movie will be spending most of its time telling a story in the modern world and only intermittently visiting the eras in which the games primarily take place. If they can put together a good Bond/Bourne-esque story with the whole genetic memory thing as a point of difference it might just connect with a non-gamer audience.
