I like the sound of that!

You might want to look to first-person dungeon crawlers like Shining in the Darkness (GEN), Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land (PS2), Legend of Grimrock (PC), and, most recently, Severed (PSV).

Or, if you're thinking third-person/top-down, you could look at Labyrinth Legends (PS3), or anything from Baldur's Gate/Diablo/Dungeon Siege.

As Natsu said it will probably be top down. It will have the same graphics style as the old Pokemon games because we are using RPG Maker VX Ace

OK that sounds cool :)

So Labyrinth Legends might be helpful. Top-down Zelda games like The Minish Cap could be useful too.

As far as mechanics and gameplay scenarios, I always like a healthy balance between combat, exploration, and problem-solving. One thing I really like is when exploration/storytelling are linked. So instead of cut-scenes or voiceover narration, pieces of the game's story - murals, journal entries, etc. - can be discovered in dark corners and hidden chambers. I think that helps create a sense of discovery, which is essential for a dungeon crawler.
