You might want to look to first-person dungeon crawlers like Shining in the Darkness (GEN), Wizardry: Tale of the Forsaken Land (PS2), Legend of Grimrock (PC), and, most recently, Severed (PSV). 

Or, if you're thinking third-person/top-down, you could look at Labyrinth Legends (PS3), or anything from Baldur's Gate/Diablo/Dungeon Siege.

(not his friend that he's making it with but I'll probaly help after I get done with mine since we are in the company together) it'd probaly be more top-down, I've played all those games and they're all amazing. Well besides labyrinth legends. nver played that one
