That's like saying because race walking is a sport then anyone going for a stroll or walking the dog is playing a sport. Because Javelin is a sport, any time you throw a stick you are doing sport. And because boxing, kickboxing, judo, UFC etc are sports then every time you get into a fight you are playing a sport. Clearly you can be doing the same sort of activity and in one context it's a sport, in another context it is not. Not all physical activity is a sport, and not all video gaming is sport. One of the key components of a sport is that it is a competition between at least 2 people. So clealy if you are playing a single player game then you are by definition not doing sport, or even an esport. I signed the Whitehouse petition, and I think most people in this thread should too, even if you don't think esports are sports, because it's actuall a petition about making easier for competitive gamers to get Visas to come into the USA for competitions. And I think making visa access easier for professional competitive gamers is a good thing regadless of this sports debate. |
Thankyou! I like how you explained it.
