Really?  I've seen people talking about all sorts of topics, and I've never seen someone banned just for a different opinion.  I'll admit I'm more of a long time lurker here, but I've talked to people about other political and social topics that were quite touchy and so long as it never got into a name calling fight people seem to stay here.

The difference is the mods wait for an infraction. They see you say something they don't agree with, and then they watch and wait. You'll notice that certain viewpoints tend to be banned by certain mods. However, while the watching and waiting for a slip up is unfair, it's still within the confines of the rules. That's why getting banned on VGC is (a little) more fair.
