You understand that "hundres of thusands" (potentially millions of sick people) > "2000 ish" right? You also understand in war, in general you attack military with military, and leave the civilians alone. The A bombs, where targeted at hurting civilians.

The atomic bombs were aimed at ending the war. Japan didn't want a quick or easy end to the fighting so the US went with a terrible option but it resulted in far, far less death.
